Beginners Guide to Gemstone Jewelry & E's Element Cubic Zirconia Products

Any rock that is transparent with a strong body color will unquestionably be considered a gemstone, but there’s so much more to gems than the very cleanest and clearest stones. The marketing of perfection has somewhat skewed the true meaning of what gemstones are all about, and over here at E’s Element, we work hard every day to reverse this perception. Just because they aren’t perfectly transparent, and their body color isn’t white, or even fiery red, doesn’t mean that other gems don’t have value. We want to create a new paradigm for our customers: that true beauty comes from a stone’s personality as well as its physical appearance.

Durability

Today, a large part of the jewelry industry insists on using Mohs scale to measure the hardness of a gem. This system states that there are ten essential minerals in nature, each with different hardness ratings. Sapphire is 9 on the hardness scale and Diamond is a 10. As such, it can be said that nothing but another diamond will scratch a diamond.

Rarity

Even though the rarity of gemstones is hard to quantify, no gem is easy to find. Even the big Diamond mining companies are constantly looking for new sources as their sites become depleted. If you take Diamond as a base, then gemstones such as Tanzanite are thought to be about 1,000 times rarer – so for every 1,000 Diamonds that are found, only one Tanzanite is found. It just goes to show that rarity isn't everything when it comes to gemstone jewelry and demand, rather it's about public perception

Along with these basic aspects about gemstones, consider looking at jewelry reports or other characteristics of the stone such as color or shape if it is already set in a piece of jewelry.

Zircon Gemstones

Natural zircon is an opaque stone that varies in color from brown to red. When heat treated, blue zircon is transformed into a beautiful pastel blue hue. This gemstone is a durable material that has been used for thousands of years for both jewelry and tools. Zircon has a high refractive index and dispersion, which means it reflects light better than most other gems. Zircon also has a hardness (Mohs 9) and is durable, heat-resistant, and naturally colorless. It is also resistant to chemicals, making it a good choice for jewelry wear. The most popular gemstone color of zircon is blue, with other colors including green and pink found in the deposits.

The most sought-after color of zircon is blue. These can be difficult to find but are gorgeous when worn as jewelry. Green zircon is also a favorite because it happens to be the rarest variety of zircon. Some zircon stones can also display pleochroism, or the ability to display two or more colors depending on the angle at which you view the stone.

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is the most popular birthstone for December. If you want a beautiful and durable stone, this is the way to go. Cubic zirconia is not actually a gemstone but has been made to look like one. It is a man-made crystal that has the same durability and shine as a diamond at a fraction of the price. Cubic Zirconia is made up of zinc sulfide, silicon dioxide (an element used in adhesives), and colorants that make it resemble diamonds.

The gemstone CZ is an affordable substitute for diamonds, given that they cost only a fraction of the price and have similar characteristics. As such, it has been in competition with the real thing. This is especially true when it comes to the hardness, clarity, refraction, color, and other characteristics of genuine diamonds. When it comes to variety and fitting your needs, CZ delivers every time.

Cubic zirconia is one of the most popular stones in the world of jewelry. These crystals imitate diamonds perfectly and are perfect for those looking to wear wonderful, beautiful pieces without spending a fortune. They are also ideal for those with allergies because they do not contain any allergens.
